LaSu helps you learn languages from the text you already read online — on lasu.online and through the LaSu Chrome extension. This page says what we process, where it goes and how to get rid of it, in plain words. It applies to both.
1.What we process
Four kinds of data, and only when you do something that needs them.
- Text you ask us to translate. Text you select on a web page with the extension, text you type or paste into the popup or the web app, and the text inside an image you right-click. It travels with your target languages, tone, interface language and an anonymous device id the extension generates, which we use only to count free lookups per day.
- Account details, if you sign in. Sign-in is through Google. We store your name, email address and profile picture, plus your settings, translation history, practice progress, XP and streaks.
- Payment details, if you subscribe to Pro. Payments are handled by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer id and subscription status — never a card number.
- What we never collect. The pages you visit, your browsing history, your location, or anything on a page you did not select. The extension only reacts to a selection or a right-click you make; nothing else on the page is read or sent.
2.How translation works
Your text is sent over HTTPS to lasu.online and from there to OpenAI, which produces the translation. This happens whether or not you are signed in.
- Signed out is not offline. Without an account your text is still sent to our servers and to OpenAI to be translated. Signing out only means nothing is saved to an account.
- What OpenAI receives. The text, the languages and the tone — never your name, email or account details. OpenAI processes it under its API terms, which do not use API data to train its models.
- Caching. Identical requests are answered from a short-lived cache — up to 12 hours on your device in the extension, up to one hour on our server — so a repeat lookup is instant and does not spend a request.
3.Your history and the community feed
When you are signed in, what you look up can be kept for you and, if you have joined the Community, shared with other learners.
- History. With Save to history on (the default), each lookup is stored with its translations, examples and notes so you can review and practise it. Turn it off in Preferences; delete single items or clear the whole history at any time.
- Community feed. If you have joined the Community, single-word lookups you make on the web app appear in the public live feed on the Community page, with your name and profile picture. In Community settings you can turn off Share translations, or keep sharing but hide your name or picture. Lookups made through the extension, and lookups of more than one word, are never shown there.
4.Cookies and browser storage
We use the minimum needed to keep you signed in and to remember your language.
- Cookies. lasu.online sets a session cookie to keep you signed in and a LASU_LOCALE cookie for the interface language. The extension reads only the LASU_LOCALE cookie, and only on lasu.online, so its interface matches the website; it reads no other cookie on any site.
- Extension storage. Your settings, the translation cache, recent lookups and the device id live in the browser's extension storage on your device. Languages, tone and interface language also sync with your account when you are signed in.
5.Emails
If you have an account we send progress summaries on the schedule you choose, and you can switch them off in Preferences → Email. Stripe sends receipts for Pro. We do not send marketing on behalf of anyone else.
6.Analytics and security
lasu.online uses Vercel Analytics for aggregate, cookie-less page-view statistics; there is no analytics inside the extension. All data in transit is protected with HTTPS. We do not sell data, show ads or share your text with anyone other than the AI provider that translates it.
7.Retention and deletion
We keep data for as long as it is useful to you, and you can end that at any time.
- Account data. Kept while your account exists. Delete history items yourself in the app; to delete the whole account and everything attached to it, email us and it is removed within 30 days.
- Guest data. Without an account nothing about you is stored beyond a daily counter against the anonymous device id, which resets every day and is not linked to a person.
- The extension. Removing the extension deletes everything it stored in your browser: settings, cache, recent lookups and the device id.
8.Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how it is processed. Most of this you can do yourself in the app; for anything else, email us and we will answer within 30 days.
9.Children
LaSu is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
10.Changes to this policy
When our practices change, this page changes with them and the date at the top is updated. Meaningful changes are also announced in the app.
